Manager of Engineering
Location: Greater Kitchener Area
Type: Full time
Compensation: salary (market correct), performance bonus, shares
Our client is a very well-known and highly-regarded consulting engineering firm that has asked us to help them find a talented manager to establish and lead a flexible, responsive and impactful multidisciplinary design engineering team that supports their entire Canadian operation. It’s a big job with lots of challenges and pitfalls but a tremendous amount of upside.
You’ll be responsible for three core deliverables over the first 12-18 months:
- Assessing, rationalizing and upgrading the design team, its systems and every single design process in order to better secure and execute design work internally.
- Rebuilding each recruitment, mentoring, evaluation program to ensure the right people are in the right roles and doing the right things at the right times.
- Taking a small, imperfectly understood, locally-focused engineering team national, and ensuring it’s the standard bearer for design capability across the entire organization.
If you can accomplish the above, we want to talk to you ASAP.
Realistically, we’re looking for the following profile:
- A senior, hands-on engineer (mechanical or electrical) with depth of experience in industrial plant design within the water, wastewater, solid waste, and/or transit and infrastructure sectors. (If your experience is concentrated in linear infrastructure or heavy civil projects, unfortunately this won’t be the right role for you.)
- A track record of success in building and leading teams and improving their performance and overall effectiveness within a consulting engineering environment (critical!) and with other, well-known firms (ideal).
Expanding and dramatically ramping up the value proposition for their design engineering team is a critical strategic initiative for our client in Fiscal 2018. If you’re able to help make this happen, you’ll be considered a superstar and future leader. For an experienced engineering manager, getting out of the weeds and making a real difference is the stuff of dreams. This is an amazing opportunity for an experienced engineer and manager who might looking for a leadership role with an agile, “capital E” entrepreneurial, employee-owned and principal-led company with an empowering, forward-thinking culture and lean, flat, decentralized corporate structure.
